Wohnungsgeberbestätigung – The Document You Need to Register
For your registration at the Bürgeramt, you need one important document: the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung.
What Is It?
A form in which your landlord officially confirms that you live at the property. Important: A rental contract alone is often not enough.
Why Do You Need It?
- Registration: You need this document to officially register your address.
- Taxes and banking: Registration is required for receiving your tax ID and completing certain banking processes.
- Deadline: You generally have 2 weeks after moving in to register your address.
Who Signs It?
Your landlord or the property management company signs the document. If you live with friends, the main tenant can sign it if they are the person providing you with the accommodation.
Your Checklist
- Move into the apartment.
- Ask your landlord for the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung.
- Book an appointment at the Bürgeramt.
- Go to the office with the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung and your passport.
Tip
Ask your landlord for the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung right after moving in so that nothing delays your registration.
